So it's time for so long...

So it

Good morning my friends!

The day has arrived.

Our last official day of school. It feels so weird. The building shouldn't be empty and quiet. We should all be together and getting excited about awards ceremonies and summer break. But, it is what it is, right?  We are safe and healthy at home and in the grand scheme, that is what is most important.

I recorded a video for you last night.  My dog Chauncey makes an appearance. smiley  I hope you have some time to watch it as I share how to create a self care kit and read you a story. heart

In the words of Winnie the Pooh, how lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.  It's not really goodbye.  It's just "See you later!"

Take care of yourselves and have a wonderful summer!

Love,
Mrs. Keeney

Friday Eve!

Friday Eve! image

Good morning friends!

It’s Friday Eve! It’s hard to believe it’s the last time I’m going to say that for awhile. Have I told you lately how much I miss you? sad  I saw a huge stack of returned NTI packets this morning. We are so proud of you and all your hard work during this time.  I hope I get to see you when you come to clean out your lockers.  Even if it’s from a distance.  I watched Governor Beshear’s press conference yesterday and there’s some hope that things will start opening soon.  My pup is definitely in need of a pedicure and we won’t even begin to talk about MY hair.  It’s exciting to see that things might be on their way back to normal eventually.

So today’s news story is very silly.  I make a joke to my husband about trash day (which is today for me) is a highlight of the week because I get to go on a trip to the end of our driveway.  This story is about people dressing up and being ridiculous on their trash pickup days.  Be sure to check it out for a good laugh.

https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/funny-costume-themed-garbage-bin-outings-during-quarantine/

I’ll be coming to you one more time tomorrow on the blog to close out our school year!

Stay safe,

Mrs. Keeney

Last Wacky Wednesday for Awhile

Last Wacky Wednesday for Awhile image

Good morning friends!

It’s the last Wednesday of school and it’s time for our last Wacky Wednesday joke. Not too worry, we will bring these back next school year!

Now you have to say this one out loud to get the full effect.

What did Tennessee? …...  The same thing as Arkansas.

I know, it’s terrible.  My husband groaned.

So in today’s good news story, it sticks with our joke theme. Lots of kids start lemonade stands, this kid started a drive by joke stand to make his neighbors laugh and told them to save their money for groceries.  I love it!

https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/boy-starts-joke-stand-to-spread-laughter-during-quarantine/

Continue to stay well!

Happy Tuesday!

Good morning friends!

I’m running a little bit behind with the blog today. I was part of a crew that recording a segment on Somerset 106 this morning. I hope you get to tune in! We will be on around 1pm.

As our time together is beginning to come to close, I wanted to make sure to share some important information if you need it.  It’s no surprise that anxiety and depression rates are running high right now for a lot of people. There’s a great deal of uncertainty, possibly fear, disappointment, perhaps even grieving for the loss of normal in your life. Please know, that however you’re feeling is okay. I’m not sure if there is such a thing as feeling normal in abnormal times.  It’s a universal experience to feel anxious and/or depressed, meaning we all feel it sometimes.

Common signs of anxiety include

-feeling nervous, restless, tense

-feelings of impending danger, panic, or dread

-rapid heart rate, increased breathing

-difficulty focusing or thinking clearly

about anything other than what you are worrying about

Here are some common signs of depression

-feeling hopeless or helpless about things improving

-loss of interest in daily activities

-sleep changes (either too much or too little)

-appetite changes

-loss of energy

-concentration problems

Here are some activities to try when you’re feeling down:

-Nurture Yourself (watch a good movie, listen/sing your favorite songs, read a book or magazine that interests you)

-Move- this could be an indoor activity like rearranging your room, or go outdoors, take a walk, or ride your bike

-Be Social- call a friend. FaceTime, Google Hangouts, and Houseparty are great options to see people you are missing.   Write a letter to someone who makes you happy (maybe a friend, a family member, a teacher, a famous person)

-Get Creative- paint or draw, cook a new dish, learn a new hobby (youtube has thousands of instructional videos)

-Start a list of gratitudes- try to come up with one new thing each day that you’re thankful for.

These are challenging times and we can all benefit from extra support. It’s okay to reach out for additional help. I, along with the other counselors and FRYSC staff of Somerset Independent, have great relationships with local mental health agencies.  We work with Phoenix, Wellsprings, Intrust, Somerset Mental Health, and Quest, just to name a few. Our local mental health agencies are using telehealth services and accept most insurances. We will be happy to refer students and families for counseling services. Parents can also contact these agencies.

Happy Last Monday of School!

Good morning friends!

I hope you are doing well on this very foggy Monday morning. I think Mother Nature is just as confused as we are, because last night felt more like winter than spring.  I do not know about you but I was incredibly lazy this past weekend.  I try to keep busy but sometimes you have to surrender to the need to move and simply rest.  I read a lot and watched a lot of TV.  I was able to do a zoom yoga class with some girls from the studio I attend.  It was SO good to see people.

I wanted to remind you about tomorrow’s radio show!  You will recognize some voices if you tune into Somerset 106 around 1pm.

In today’s good news, those of you who love video games might love this story. A dad built his little boy an arcade machine and included many games that he liked as a kid.  I would love to have an arcade game at my house! The pictures are so cute.

https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/man-finds-calling-building-arcade-games-in-lockdown/

I hope you have a good day!

Happy Friday

Happy Friday image

Good morning friends!

We have made it and it is finally Friday. I have been working a lot this week at school. I have suddenly become very busy since it has been announced that next Friday is the last day of instruction. I encourage you to keep working hard and finishing up those NTI packets.  You’ve done so well and we are proud of you!

In today’s good news….Beyonce!  I’ve always thought she was an incredible human being. But now, I think even more so. I read a story this morning that she has partnered with the CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, and together they have made pledges of $6 million dollars for mental health relief amid this Covid 19 crisis.  I just LOVE to see people doing good things for others.

I hope you have a great weekend and I’ll be writing to you for one more week!

Take care of yourselves.

Mrs. Keeney

Friday Eve!

Good morning my friends!

I had hoped for another pretty day today, but it seems it’s going to be a rainy, dreary day.  But like life, we take the good with the bad, right?

I wanted to tell you something pretty exciting.  Next Tuesday, at 1pm, a group of us are participating in a a radio show on Somerset 106. There will be some familiar voices you’ll probably recognize. I think the program will go on for three weeks.  I’ll be on the first one!  I hope you can tune in.

Today’s good news is so sweet.  I’ve seen photos of some of you creating sidewalk chalk art.  But have your grandmothers been doing this?  😊  This grandma has.

I hope you have a great day!

Wonderful Wednesday

Hi friends!

I am running very late today with the blog. I try to have it posted by 10 am, but it's been a busy day!  So you're getting at 2 pm instead. But better late than never, right?

Today is Wednesday...so it's time for our Wacky Wednesday joke.

How does a penguin build its house?.......Igloos it together!

So, some news is coming your way.  The last day for students will be May 1st. That's next Friday. Isn't that so crazy!  Your families will get a one call with more information tomorrow.

In today's good news... this is crazy.  So, you know how much I love dogs.  You may also know how amazing service animals are. In London, England, scientists are studying to see if dogs can be trained to detect the coronavirus.  Be sure to read the story!

Take care of yourself!

Climbing the Walls

Good morning friends!

You probably heard that yesterday the governor announced that we are to finish out our school year with NTI.  I’d say a lot of people had different feelings about it.  It’s definitely bittersweet.  I’m glad that our governor is making decisions that are going to keep us and our families safe, yet I am sad that I won’t get to see you again for awhile. It really hurts my heart to think about my 8th graders.  But, I can’t dwell on the things that I can’t change, right?

Let’s think about something a little more positive.  I’ve been seeing posts of people working on murals around town and the pictures are so cool.  I’ve included a little art activity today if you’re able to print it. I’m definitely going to give it a try.

mural

In today's news....this is so awesome. I know you've probably found yourself bored during the quarantine. Get ready for a terrible pun.  Have you been climbing the walls in boredom? The girl in this story literally has been. She's built herself a climbing wall. Be sure to check it out.

Have a wonderful day!

Marvelous Monday Morning

Good morning friends!

Mr. Rollyson asked me this morning, “How was your weekend?”

And I said, “Isn’t it all a weekend now? One continuous Saturday?”

I wasn’t trying to be a smart aleck but that’s how it feels!  Regardless, I hope today finds you well. I read something funny in an email I received and wanted to share it with you.

There are so many kinds of silence. Some of them are lonely — empty streets where there used to be bustling crowds, a quiet afternoon which should have been filled with laughter and conversation with family and friends. But silence can be incredibly healing. It forces you to focus your mind on other things. Maybe your own innermost thoughts, or just the sound of the wind rustling through the trees outside. No matter where you find your silence, one thing’s for sure: The moment you become totally, completely at peace with it, someone down the street is going to start up a leaf blower.

That’s so true, right?

I have shared with some of you that I started taking piano lessons awhile back. I played when I was a little kid and was part of the Meece Middle/Somerset High school band program in my younger days.  There’s something about piano sounds that calm me.  Today’s news story is about piano playing, but not like you’d expect.  You may have heard that in addition to the coronavirus, our neighbors in Tennessee were tragically impacted by tornadoes last week. A lady was doing some clean up and saw that a piano hadn’t been destroyed, climbed up in the rubble, and began to play.  I love this story. Check it out.

Feel Good Friday

Feel Good Friday image

Good morning my friends!

I hope this week has treated you well.  I am super excited to tell you that I have my first virtual classroom guidance video ready for you.  I talk about coping skills and how using them can help us get through tough times. Learning how to cope is a really important life skill. Not only will it help you right now in our current situation, but it will help you with future adversity. My husband, Phil. is pretty handy with a camera and editing skills and he did a great job. I hope you take a moment to check it out.

https://youtu.be/l-xwMbeIna4

In today's good news...I'm not going to lie. This made me cry. But in a good way.  I have always had the wish to be able to sing. I know we have SO many MMS students who can sing beautifully and I'm so envious.  Today's story is about a hospital chorus from Texas.  (Who knew that was a thing?) They do a cover of a Bruno Mars song that you might recognize.  It hit me in the feels and it's beautiful.

I hope you have a great weekend and I will talk to you next week!

Dangerous Bunnies

Dangerous Bunnies image

So Mrs. Keeney, (I imagine you're thinking) what's up with today's title?  Have you finally lost your mind?

Fear not. I haven't.  It's related to today's news story.

But before we get to that, good morning. How are you?  I hope you're doing great. I continue to miss you each day. So I've had a lot of time to sort through closets. I found my school picture from 7th grade I wanted to show you.  I was a student at Meece Middle like you.  I had some serious bangs. Has anyone else found childhood photos?

So I know you're beside yourselves wondering what's up with the dangerous bunnies, so here you go.  I'm sure several of your parents are working from home and it's hard to find a balance of both working and being a parent at the same time. This is a working dad who made a video of what it is like to have his little girl at home with him.  It's in a different language but you can read the subtitles what she's saying and it is so funny!

Take care,

Wonderful Wednesday!

Wonderful Wednesday! image

Good morning my friends!

It’s a cold morning here at Meece Middle School.  Can you believe that it snowed yesterday? With as weird as everything else is right now, I wasn’t too surprised. It seems Mother Nature has joined in on the weird. Well anyway, it is Wednesday and if we were in school, you know what that means!  It’s time for our Wacky Wednesday joke.

What did the duck say when it bought chapstick?

....Put it on my bill!

I love it. If you want to submit a joke for next week, email me and I’ll give you a shout out for it!

Those of you who know me, know that I love coffee. In fact, I have this sign in my office. It was a sad day when our local Baxter’s made the decision to close due to the coronavirus. Part of owning a business is having to make hard decisions. I know business will be booming once this is all over and may we all celebrate with our favorite drink!  So why am I talking about coffee?   Today’s good news story is about a man who is an aspiring barista (one who prepares and serves coffee) and has hopes to open in his own coffee shop someday.  So he’s practicing by giving away free coffee from his window to healthcare and other essential workers.  I have a feeling he’s going to learn a lot, people are going to learn who he is, and someday his business will thrive! Be sure to watch how he hands the coffee out the window. It’s pretty hilarious.

Continue to stay well!

Wishing you a Terrific Tuesday

Good morning my friends,

I hope today finds you well.  I’ve been in a “thinking mood” this morning. Like you, (and probably everyone on the planet) I’m wondering when this ends, will life be really different?  Will we have learned something about ourselves when it’s all over? I sure hope so.  I saw a quote the other day that said, “In a rush to return to normal, use this time to consider which parts of normal are worth rushing back to.”  Let’s think about that for a moment. Did you find yourself doing, saying, thinking things that weren’t really serving you?  Maybe you were in an unhealthy friendship (we all have those), maybe you formed some bad habits, or maybe you stayed excessively busy, angry, or stressed all the time.  I challenge you to think about some things that you can let go of, once our normal lives resume.

In today’s good news, I had mentioned the Shedd Aquarium penguins in a previous post.  If you’re on social media, you’ve probably seen them.  I can’t get enough of Wellington and his friends. Yesterday the aquarium posted a video of them hopping up and down the stairs outside and it’s about the cutest thing ever.  I did some digging and found this video about “A Day in the Life of a Shedd Penguin”.  If you love them like I do, you’ll enjoy this.  I may have to hang it up as a school counselor and go be a trainer for these guys.  (Just kidding)

Continue to take good care of yourself!

Welcome Back!

Good Monday Morning friends!

Welcome back from Spring Break. (Probably the weirdest spring break ever, right?) Or maybe it just felt like another week of the new weird normal to you. Either way, I'm happy to be back and writing to you each day. I'm giving some thought to putting together some videos. I really miss visiting classrooms and while it's not the same, I thought I could upload some "classroom guidance" videos for you. What do you think?  I promise not to make them too awkward.wink

So this is about the time of year that I start planning our Annual Kprep Pep Rally Crazy Games. It’s usually a lot of work and planning but to see all the smiles and hear the shouts and squeals from students and teachers, makes it all worthwhile.  Those of you who have been at Meece Middle for awhile, know that we usually conclude Crazy Games with our Hungry Hungry Hippos (human version).  Today’s story is about another group who is playing this very game. Only instead of middle school students, it’s senior citizens in a nursing home.  Take a minute to watch the video. It’s sure to make you smile.

Continue to stay well, work hard on your NTI packets, and know that we miss you!

Have a Fabulous Friday!

yoda

Good morning friends!

Today should have been a very exciting day. This would have been the last Friday before Spring Break and so many of you would have been so excited for the break.  However, fate allowed us an extra long Spring Break this year!

I suspect a lot of people are feeling some disappointment and maybe even a little grief that things aren’t happening that should be. I’m sure 8th graders are sad that we didn’t get to have the dance. Maybe you’re upset that your family isn’t going on a vacation that you had planned. Maybe you play spring sports and you’re really bummed that your season isn’t happening. You aren’t alone in your feelings. It’s completely normal to feel this way. And while there isn’t much that I can say that will change the way you feel, I do believe that all of this will change you for the better.  I think after all of this passes, we will all be more thankful for the little (and big) things that we have missed out on.

In today’s good news story, this is for the athletes.  I know at my house, we REALLY miss basketball. At least four NBA basketball players have had Covid 19.  These guys have recovered (which is awesome news!) and they are planning to help with treatment by donating blood.  It makes my heart happy when people do things for the good.

https://abcnews.go.com/Health/nba-players-whove-beaten-covid-19-donate-blood/story?id=69909547

In bonus good news, I LOVE THIS.   It’s a story about a dog who delivers groceries to his neighbor.  You need to see it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=3&v=IRPPKt25PU0&feature=emb_logo

Since next week is Spring Break, I’ll be stepping away from the blog. But rest assured, I’ll be back afterwards. Please continue to take care of yourself.

Happy Friday Eve!

Badlands Chauncey

Good morning friends!

Somehow it's almost the end of the third week since this whole thing started. And it's been three weeks since I've seen you! How is it possible?

Several years ago, I had my wisdom teeth removed.  It was a pretty traumatic event because I had a lot of dentist anxiety. The days following were a blur because I was sleeping a lot and taking medicine. I had a lot of complications.  I missed a lot of my favorite foods. I remember telling my mom that I was going to make a list of all the foods that I was going to eat when I healed. It seemed ridiculous but it gave me some hope that things would get better.

It kind of reminds me of what we are dealing with right now. While the pain isn't the same, the longing for what I miss is similar.  I am thinking about making a list of all the things that I'm looking forward to doing once it's safe. I am most looking forward to travelling again. I went out West last summer and I've included a photo from my trip. Thinking about fun times help me. What are you looking forward to the most?

In today's good news... have you seen videos of the parades that people are doing?  I've seen several but this one is my favorite. A dinosaur parade in Milwaukee!

https://fox6now.com/2020/03/22/social-distancing-dinosaur-parade-in-bay-view-sunday-afternoon/

Hope you have a great day!

Wonderful Wednesday

Chauncey

Good morning friends!

Today is Wednesday and if we were at school, you would know what that means!  It's time for our Wacky Wednesday joke!

Want to hear a joke about a piece of paper? Never mind... it's tearable.

So my pup, Chauncey, is living his best life right now with my husband and I at home almost all the time. If you have pets, I'm sure that your animals are loving all this extra time with you. A couple of my friends have adopted pets in the last week or so. I thought, "What a great time to bring home a new friend!"  Then not long after that, I saw an article about a surge of pet adoptions all over the United States.  Isn't that so awesome?

https://www.wfsb.com/news/pet-adoptions-increase-during-covid--pandemic/article_2766b1b4-6eca-11ea-926f-ff9122752bc0.html

Stay well and keep washing your hands!

We Heart Snacks

Good morning friends!

I hope this rainy morning finds you well.  I am happy to report that I am working in my office today.  Mr. Rollyson, Mr. Miller, and I have been here getting ready for NTI packets drop off/pick up tomorrow. I'm REALLY hoping I get to see some of you.

So, let's talk about one of my favorite topics.  Snacks.  Snacks are our friends, right?  Since we have a lot of downtime, I'm sure a lot of us are spending time eating, making, or thinking about snacks.  When I was a kid, my mother had a weird snack that she liked. She would take a couple of scoops of chocolate ice cream, a handful of Lay's Plain Potato Chips, and eat those together.  Newsflash: It was actually delicious.  Then when I was a student at Somerset High School, we had the opportunity to buy soft serve ice cream every day at lunch. (Man, those were the days!) My friends would dip their french fries into the ice cream.  Same idea, different form of potato, same satisfying sweet/salty combo.

So what weird food combinations are you feeling?  Today's article is about just that. So apparently SPAM (yes, the canned meat company) conducted a poll about food combinations. (Clearly we aren't the only ones who are bored) and people submitted some of their favorite combos.  Be sure to check it out.

https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/americans-most-bizarre-food-combos-to-try-in-lockdown/

Happy snacking and stay safe!

Love, Mrs. Keeney

Making Us Stronger Monday

Good morning friends,

I hope today finds you well. It is so nice to see the sun radiating through my home office windows this morning. I hope your weekend was a good one.  So, as my students know, I try to look at life positively. I want to share something with you to prove that sometimes even I struggle. Saturday morning, I had a series of strange dreams (I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing that too?) and I woke up in an odd mood. I spent most of the day in my feelings. I thought about my friends, particularly my work friends, and how much I miss them and the uncertainty of when I'll see them again. I felt pretty sad. I want to tell you it's OKAY if you have these moments or days. We are all human and feeling all kinds of emotions. Just remember not to unpack and live in that sadness and remind yourself that your life will eventually go back to normal.

In today's good news, I saw this video that a group of middle school students made. It reminds me SO much of something that Meece Middle kids would do. The kid in the sombero and taco costume is THE BEST.  Take a minute to watch and maybe you all can put together something like this. If anyone can do it, it's you guys. https://youtu.be/sIVKdkEEhSc

Please continue to take care of yourselves and remember I'm still here for you.

Love,

Mrs. Keeney

Happy Friday!

Watercolor

Good morning friends!

There's been many times in my life that I have thought or said, "I am too busy. I don't have time to do everything that I need to do."  I've discovered I can no longer say this. While I may not get to do a lot of the things that kept me busy before, I certainly have a whole bunch of time to do other things that I didn't have time for.  It's easy to view all of this negatively and think about how boring, weird, strange life is now. But as you know, I'm a big believer in optimism. I'm trying to see all of this as opportunities to do all the things I want (within reason) to do. One of these things is creating art.  I'm by no means talented in art, but it's something that I enjoy.  I've been painting, making cards, and working on watercolor. I've included a watercolor piece that I did last week.  If you all have been crafting, I'd love to see it or hear about it!

In today's good news, I'm giving you two stories. It's Friday and we love extra things on Fridays!   Downtown next to the Dairy Queen, have you ever noticed the Little Library?  It's a small little box that has books in it. I think it was set up by Pulaski Elementary a couple of years ago. I think it's such a cool little idea for sharing books.  So in different parts of the country, people are stocking Little Libraries with food and other supplies for neighbors who might need it.  https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/23/us/coronavirus-little-free-pantry-iyw-trnd/index.html

If you are in the downtown area, see if you can find the Little Library. Maybe you'll see something or want to add some things to it?

Bonus story!  So we know it's a lot of bad news right now.  Did you know that air pollution levels are dropping around the world? Places like New York, Chicago, and LA are seeing dramatically lower levels of air pollution on satellite images. How awesome, right?  At least we know outside is safe and potentially could get safer with the air we breathe.

https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/coronavirus/satellite-images-show-pollution-levels-dropping-in-u-s-cities-amid-coronavirus-pandemic/2344733/

I hope you have a great weekend and check back next week for new blog posts!

It's Friday Eve, Peter Parker!

Yoga!

Good morning friends!

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that is has been two weeks since I have seen you.  Time is going by so fast, but sometimes it feels like it's going so slow. I've received a couple of pictures from my students showing me what they've been up to lately.  Feel free to email me or text me a photo if you'd like! It makes me happy to see you. I have set up a contact number if you'd like to call or text during "normal" school hours. The number is 502-483-2762.

As we face another day of uncertainty, I find that keeping a routine is something that is helping me.  I look forward every morning to sitting down and writing to you. It's a good start for my day.  Some of you may know that I'm a big fan of yoga (shout out to the girls in my Yoga club!). I like to try to end my evenings with it.  I've been working on a pose called One Legged Chair. I surprised myself with being able to hold it long enough to take a photo last night.  If you are interested in learning some yoga (it does wonders for you mentally!), YouTube has a TON of videos.  I have an app on my phone called DownDog and it is free for students and teachers until at least July 1st.  You can make it as easy as you'd like.

In today's good news... my husband has always been a big fan of Marvel movies.  I'm pretty sure he has seen every single one multiple times. I'm a fan of Iron Man myself, because he's snarky and hilarious. So Jake Johnson, who plays Peter Parker/Spider Man in the latest Spider Man movie, is doing something really cool. He has received a lot of messages from parents telling him that they've been watching the movie a lot with their kids during this time.  He is offering to send an encouraging voice message to kids who are stuck inside. Check out the article and maybe he will send you one!

Stay well friends!

Wishing you a Wonderful Wednesday

Puzzle Fun

Good morning friends!

If we were in school, you know Wednesday means one thing...it's time for our Wacky Wednesday joke!

What time did the man go to the dentist?

.......Tooth hurt-y.

I hope you all are continuing to do well, both physically and mentally. When we have a lot of time on our hands, it's normal to think and reminisce. My maiden name was Bell.  I've been thinking a lot about my Granny Bell and what she would think about everything that's going on in the world. She was a homebody (had a lot of practice raising TEN kids) and could stay pretty content doing things around the house and sitting on the porch in the evenings.  Something that was almost ALWAYS on her kitchen table was a jigsaw puzzle. We (me, my dad, my uncles, whoever was around) would take a little time each day and try to help her work it.  So that leads to me to what I've been up to.  I'm on my second jigsaw puzzle as we speak. I've included a picture for you to see. I find that there's some satisfaction in giving your mind something to do, like searching for a particular puzzle piece and finding it. I hope you are finding things to do that you like.

In today's good news... if you are an animal lover (like me) you are going to LOVE this. There is an organization called Warrior Canine Connection. So I'm sure you've heard of service dogs, right?  This organization trains dogs to work with wounded veterans.  The link I'm sharing today is a LIVE FEED of PUPPIES training to be service dogs.  It's the best. To watch the pups and learn more about this organization, please click this link.

Happy Tuesday!

Good morning friends!

I read a quote that I thought was perfect for this time that we are living through. "What I can do is offer myself, wholehearted and present, to walk with the people I love through the fear and the mess. That's all any of us can do. That's what we are here for."

As a person who lives with anxiety, there is a lot of troubling thoughts and feelings when we face a lot of unknowns. I told my husband last week that I wish I had a grandparent or a great uncle that I could call and ask how to handle this pandemic, but no one has ever experienced it, so no one has advice. BUT! Guess who will be a "Surviving a Pandemic Expert" when all of this is over? You!  And when you get through this, you can literally get through anything that your life will throw at you and there is power in knowing that. We are all being given a new shield right now that will help us get through whatever else comes our way.  Pretty awesome, right?

So, in good news, I wanted to share a story I saw a few days ago.  Like I said in an earlier blog post, I'm on the hunt for good news stories. I'm sure you've heard that things are pretty bad all over the world, especially in the country of Italy.  But this story isn't about that.  It's about neighbors singing from their balconies to let each other know that they are still here. Radio stations played the Italian national anthem and everyone took a moment to sing together.  They are also making sure each day to clap and cheer for the medical professionals who are working around the clock to save lives. Be sure to watch the video. Amazing stuff, friends.

We miss you. Stay well.

Love,

Mrs. Keeney

Good Monday Morning!

First Name Always, Last Name Judging

I hope everyone had a great weekend and are continuing to adapt to our new normal. I hope you are trying to fill your days with things that make you happy.

This morning I had the opportunity to be a guest on Mid Mornings with Amy on Somerset 106. My broadcasting skills are limited to morning announcements and one calls, so needless to say I was quite nervous.  I made sure to give Meece Middle School kids a shout out to let you all know that we are missing you terribly!

So let's talk about this social distancing thing.  It's weird, right? I went to Kroger the other day and had to keep reminding myself to keep at least two cart lengths between me and other people. Despite the weirdness, as you know, it is intended to keep us safe and I hope that you practicing that every day. Now, social distancing is NOT social isolation.  I know we are all away from our friends and are likely missing them. I wanted to remind you that you are not alone. You can be creative in your interactions with your family and friends. I wanted to share a feel good story with you. Some of us are very lucky to have great relationships with our grandparents. This is a story of a family who wanted to celebrate their Grandma's 95th birthday while keeping enough distance to keep her safe. https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/national/coronavirus/video-family-sings-happy-birthday-to-95-year-old-grandma-while-social-distancing

Please continue to take care of yourselves and I have a phone number I can be reached if you need anything! 502-483-2762. Call or text!

Love,

Mrs. Keeney

P.S. Is anyone else's dog judging them all the time or is it just mine?

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday! image

Good morning everyone!

Does anyone agree that with all the negative news we see and hear, it gets old fast? I'm making it my personal mission to look for the feel good stories.  Have you heard about the penguins at the aquarium in Chicago? Obviously the aquarium had to close, so the workers have had to get creative with how to entertain the animals. So, they've let them out to explore!  I've been paying close attention to Wellington, a 32 year old rocktopper penguin, and a duo named Edward and Annie. They are having lots of adventures. If you have an instagram account, follow them at shedd_aquarium. Here's a news article and video you need to see!

https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/closed-to-humans-shedd-aquarium-invites-animals-on-field-trips/2240400/

In other news, I have created an account on Google Voice. For the days that I am working from home, I can be reached at 502-483-2762, text/call from 8:30-3:00.

Stay well and I miss you all,

Mrs. Keeney

Happy Friday Eve!

New Boss

I hope everyone is doing well and making the best of a strange situation. I know it seems like our normal has definitely changed drastically this week.   It's my goal to stay on my routine as much as possible and I would advise you to do the same.

It's a day late, but I know you have to be missing our Wacky Wednesday joke.... so, here you go...

What kind of musical instrument can be found in the bathroom?

..........   A tuba toothpaste!

Stay well and wash those hands!

Love, Mrs. Keeney

PS Check out my dog living his best life, trying to boss me around. :)
