Mrs. Keeney’s Tips for Getting Through Weird Times
Here are some things to consider for keeping yourself feeling physically and mentally well in your time away from school.
Don’t be glued to your TV or computer 24 hours a day. It’s important to be informed about developing events, but make sure you are getting your information from reliable sources. Good sources are the CDC website or Ky.gov. Governor Beshear is doing press conferences daily for Kentuckians to be aware of what’s going on in the state. Don’t believe everything you hear or read on social media. Be sure to take a break from social media for periods of time during the day and night.
Stick with a routine. With structure and predictability, it will help with anxiousness that you might be feeling. It’s tempting to fall into Netflix comas or play your Xbox for 12 hours a day. However, you’re much more likely to stay feeling well mentally if you keep yourself on some sort of schedule. Try to go to bed and get up at the same time each day. Put aside a specific time each day to work on your NTI packets. Don’t wait and try to complete several days of work in one day. Consider outdoor activities if the weather cooperates. Don’t be cooped up if you don’t have to be.
Pay attention to your Physical Health Obviously you know by now, wash your hands often. Make sure to bathe and change your clothes daily. Try to eat three meals a day. (Don’t try to survive on Mt Dew and Doritos) Drink fluids. If you begin to feel sick, be sure to tell your parent/guardian as soon as you begin to feel poorly.
MOST IMPORTANTLY If you aren’t feeling so good mentally in this strange time, it’s very important to talk to someone. Reach out to a family member, a friend, or me! There’s a couple of different ways to reach me First, you can contact me via email: firstname.lastname@example.org We can talk via email or if you’d like for me to call you, I will be happy to. Additionally, I have created an account on Doxy.Me This a video chat program that’s free. Our website: https://doxy.me/mmsschoolcounseling Use a computer or device with a good internet connection and webcam. This service is available Mondays through Fridays 8:30am-3:00 pm. If you run into issues connecting, restart your computer or check out the Doxy.me http://help.doxy.me
Take good care of yourself and remember I’m here for you. 🙂
