New learning and rhythm lesson extension.


Materials/Resources Needed:

Boxing Gloves, Dice, Marker Board, Rhythm Sticks, Boxing Gloves


Technology Needed:

Electronic Piano and Midi Sound Module



            I. Opening Procedures:           Call Role using memory word for Kinder and 1st.

                                                            Call Role using rhythm chants and claps with 8th and 16th notes.

                                                            Body Rhythm:  feet quarter notes, hands 8th and 16th notes.


            II. Main Lesson:                        Define 8th and 16th notes…..Draw examples of each.

                                                            Focus on the use of fractions to make 16th notes.

                                                            Demonstrate the rhythm counting process using Eastman

                                                                        System and the Word System.

                                                            Rehearse class in call and response format.


             III Activity:

                 Kinder – 1st:                          Students play joia tubes and rhythm sticks to various examples.



                 2nd, 3rd, 4th :                           Explain and Demonstrate the Boxing 16th Note Rhythms.

                                                               Students roll dice to select an example to perform in a mock

                                                                   Boxing Match using quarter, 8th and 16th note rhythms.


            IV. Written Work:                       Students copy examples from the board and write the correct                                                                                          counts underneath.
