I.  Objective:   

     A.  Each student will create sounds waves and identify its pitch register.

     B.  I statement:          I can describe how sound waves move to create pitch.

 

     C.  Thoughtful Ed:  Tools for Promoting: Tools for Teaching pg. 130… Think Aloud

II.  Materials/Resources Needed:

     A.   Marker board,

     B.  (2) Sound Tubes, Hand Chimes, rope, CD of Celine Dion, laptop with voice recorder,

                    patriot remembrance flag and hat.

    

 

III.  Lesson/Procedure:

     A.  Opening Procedure:     Call Role using simple melodies to exemplify pitches.

                                                Listen to “America the Beautiful” sung by Celine Dion.

                                                Discuss “What is a patriot?  Who were the first patriots?”

                                                Discuss the use of instruments to convey emotions.

 

     B.  Main Lesson:                 Students create pitches using sound tubes  & hand chimes.

                                                Students identify the pitches they create.                      

                                                                                               

     C.  Pitch Creation Activity:

            * All students will use sound tubes to create high, medium and low pitches.  Focus on air speed.

                        Moving air creates pitch.

                                                                  

             Kinder – 2nd :

 Students will spin the sound tube:

            Fast speed to create a high pitch, Medium speed to create a medium pitch and

            Slow speed to create a low pitch.

 

 Students will be taught the lyrics & pitches in a call and response style to:  “Hello There”

 Students will use four fingers to feel their own voice and the vibration it makes.

 Students will sing the song as a group.

 Students will Pantomime the lyrics.

 

 

  3rd & 4th  Grades :

Students will spin the sound tube:

            Fast speed to create a high pitch, Medium speed to create a medium pitch and

            Slow speed to create a low pitch

 

Students will pair up in teams. 

One student spins the tube first and the second student tries to match the pitch and speed.

Then students try to spin the fastest and highest pitch.
