My family and I have owned property in the community for over a year, but are making the move to living full-time in Pulaski County this year. Being somewhat new to the community, I look forward to learning from my students and their families all the things that make Somerset the best area to grow and learn. However, please do not let that fool you; as I have been a teacher for over a decade and have many tips and tricks to share as well.
I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati in 2008 and obtained my license for Middle Childhood Education (specializing in Mathematics and Science for grades 4-9) the same year.
Work Experience: I have taught in both the traditional school setting and online in a wide range of grades and topics (from 5th grade to high school, earth science to advanced algebra).

I have learned across the board that Middle School is where all the excitement happens. I am so thrilled to be a briar jumper!
My math classroom will focus heavily on personal integrity, note-taking, fine-tuning skills and striving for excellence. To do this, we will use a variety of strategies from: cooperative learning, games, hands-on activities, visual learning techniques, independent work and direct instruction. Of course, I will build in real world problems as we go on this adventure together to build critical thinking skills and competency in mathematics.
I have created a syllabus and curriculum map for our class and standards with the guidance of the team and you are welcome to take a copy for your records. If you have any questions, concerns or comments do not hesitate to contact me about the class structure, your students’ progress or content. The best way to reach me is by email at: Keara.Larney@somerset.kyschools.us or call the school during my planning time (12:40-1:40) at 606-678-5821.
Let’s make this a hopping year!
