My name is Karen Coldiron and this is my sixth year at Meece Middle School as a Special Education Teacher. I am so glad to have your child in my class this year!
I attended Meece Middle as a student and am a graduate of Somerset High School. After attending EKU, I received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and later completed a Masters in Middle School English and Science and a Rank I in Special Education. I am married and have three grown children.
To support your child’s learning, I work hard to create an attractive, positive and fun environment in which every child feels physically, emotionally and socially safe. In our classroom, I cultivate empathy for others and doing your best. I continually encourage every student to try his/her best and assume personal responsibility each day for their choices. Clear academic and behavioral expectations are established and reinforced with patience and consistency.
I am committed to offering your child excellence in education and providing a solid foundation for their comprehensive academic skills. This school year will be different from those in the past, but my main goal is to keep all my students engaged in their learning. I work hard to include innovative lessons, hands on student-learning materials, digital learning resources, and motivating instructional strategies, which will help your child take ownership of their learning. Your child will have numerous opportunities to grow and be challenged this year!
One important lesson we all learned last year is that your involvement is crucial to your child's success. You can help by talking to about school, looking over their work and encouraging them to do keep making progress. Your support of school policies, our class procedures, and classroom learning activities is vitally important to your child’s success.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or I can help you in any way. You can call me and leave a message or email me anytime. I am excited to be working with your student. Together we will have a great year!
