Somerset-Pulaski County Clean Sweep  Somerset-Pulaski County Clean Sweep

The Somerset-Pulaski County Clean Sweep will be Thursday, April 22, which is also Earth Day.  Local businesses, residents and students will rally to pick up litter along U.S. 27, downtown Somerset streets, the Ky. 914 bypass and roadways near industrial parks, joining what is Eastern KY PRIDE’s largest event across 42 counties. 

There is a triple bag student challenge this spring for students to earn up to $500.00 cash.  See the attachment for more information.

IXL Countdown to K-PREP Challenge IXL Countdown to K-PREP Challenge

Students have been challenged to an IXL countdown to K-PREP contest.  Each week, student will have a chance to win cash prizes totally over $600.00.  Contest begins on March 22 and runs through April 18th.

According to Kentucky state regulation, KRS 158:035, all students are required to have a physical exam within one year prior to 6th grade entrance. Additionally, all 6th grade immunization certificates must be updated to include Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines.  To make an appointment or if you have questions, please refer to the Lake Cumberland Schoolhouse Health flyer below.

Meece Middle School would like to recognize the winners of our writing contest.  Students selected a historical or a current figure who they find inspirational and have made a difference in the lives of others.  Honorable mentions: Noe Porter, Olivia Bowers, Asharri Garr and Slevin Redmond.  4th place was Tyson Brashears; 3rd place Hannah Lackey; 2nd place Elise Flynn and 1st place Catherine Horn.  Special thanks to the school’s PTA for their support.

On Saturday, March 6th, Meece/ Hopkins Elementary Academic Team participated in the Elementary Regional Governor’s Cup virtually.  The team qualified for Regional Competition by placing 3rd in Quick Recall in District Competition.  We also had four students that qualified for Regional Competition in written assessment.  During Regional Competition, the team placed second overall and had four students place in written assessment.

2020-2021 Regional Governor's Cup 2020-2021 Regional Governor's Cup

On Saturday, January 30th, Meece Middle School participated in the Regional Governor’s Cup competition virtually.  The school’s quick recall team placed second overall and will advance to compete at the State Governor’s Cup in March.  We also had three student to qualify for state level competition in written assessment:  Grayson Gulock in social studies, John Lackey in Arts & Humanities and Quentin Mobley in social studies.  Congratulations to the entire team for a very successful season and a big shout out to our coaches: Ms. Julie Back and Mrs. Jacklyn Gosser.   Good luck JUMPERS at the state.

2020-2021 District Governor's Cup 2020-2021 District Governor's Cup

On Saturday, January 16th, Meece Middle School participated in the District Governor's Cup virtually.  The competition was successful and we had several students that placed and will move on to compete in the Region Governor's Cup on January 30th.  Thank you to all the coaches, students, parents and volunteers who made it possible.  The Meece Middle School team placed second in quick recall and will move unto regional competition.  FPS team placed third in the district.

Principal's Message

Welcome to Meece Middle School!

 

            Meece Middle School is the only middle school in the Somerset Independent School District.  We adhere to the mission of the Somerset Independent schools to create, implement, and maintain an environment which encourages all students to reach their fullest potential in school and in life.

 

            Meece Middle School is home to 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. We offer all basic core academic classes as well as accelerated math, science in all grades plus accelerated English in the 8th grade.  Our student elective classes include business and marketing, band, music, art, practical living, computer technology, Spanish, physical exercise and many more sub domains of career developing content.  The staff at Meece Middle School is dedicated to providing a rigorous curriculum in a student-centered, caring environment that enables all students to become productive citizens prepared to lead and serve in our community.  

 

            Meece Middle School holds true to the strong traditions and pride of the Somerset Independent School District.  With our strong focus on academics, we also provide the student body with various extracurricular activities including interscholastic athletics for all grades:  archery, dance, football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, track, cross country, cheerleading, golf and trap and skeet team.  Students may choose to participate in STLP, drama, academic teams, student council, technology teams, Y-Club, FCA, John Sherman Cooper Leadership program, STAR Student Program, the 21 Century Afterschool Program and over 20 additional career development clubs intentionally designed to target the specific needs and wants to our student body.  

 

            Meece Middle School would like to invite you to our school where the students’ best interest is always our top priority.  We are challenging students to succeed academically by providing them with learning opportunities that will allow them to understand and apply learned knowledge so that they can maximize their academic potential.  If you have any questions, please stop by or call the school.  Thank you and Go Meece Jumpers!
