Monday Sports Report

Football (6-2)

          The Briar Jumper football team turned in a dominant performance in the opening round of the 2A state playoffs on Friday night at Clark Field. The Jumpers defeated the Danville Admirals 48-14 to advance to the second round. The Jumpers were led in rushing by Chase Done with 100 yards and a TD, passing by Kaiya Sheron with 386 yards 3 TD passes and 2 rushing TD’s, and receiving by Gavin Steven with 133 yards and 2 TD’s. Also adding points to the scoreboard were Kade Grundy with a receiving TD, Jerrod Smith with a safety, Daniel Richardson with 2 field goals and 2 PAT’s and Madison Ruble with 2 PAT’s.

         Madison Ruble etched her name into Somerset history on Friday night with her two successful PAT’s becoming the first female athlete in Briar Jumper history to score for the football team. 

        The Jumpers will return to action this Friday night when they travel to Lexington to face the Lexington Christian Eagles. Tickets are limited to players and coaches' families and no tickets will be sold at the gate. The game will be live streamed on

Winter Sports Postponed

             The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its third regularly-scheduled meeting of the 2020-21 academic year on Wednesday and elected to postpone the start of the winter sports season to January 4th by unanimous vote.

           In congruence with the Governor’s order issued later the same day, official practice for all indoor interscholastic winter sports ceased on Friday, November 20 at 5 p.m. and is planned to resume on Monday, December 14.

         This cessation applies to all indoor interscholastic sports at all school levels, including but not limited to basketball, competitive cheer, dance, and swimming.
