SHS Fall DECA Trip

Somerset High School DECA members traveled to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on a marketing-related field trip.  Their first stop was the Titanic Museum where they received a tour of a replicate of the ship which included various artifacts from the original Titanic.  Each student was given a card of an actual person who was on the ship and the tour guide shared many of their stories.  The marketing department met with the students and shared information on how they promote the Titanic Museum based on their target market.  Each student also received some marketing-related, educational materials about the Titanic Museum.

The next stop on the trip was to Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede.  The students were greeted by members of the Dixie Stampede marketing team and were given specific details of what types of promotional activities that they used to keep their shows booked.  Next, the students got to eat a country-style meal while watching a fun-filled Christmas themed show.   Before heading back to the hotel that night, the students got to visit "The Island of Pigeon Forge" which had many unique shops and restaurants. 

On Saturday morning the DECA members visited the Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg where they saw various aquatic animals ranging from penguins to sharks.  While at the aquarium, a marketing member shared with the students about the various marketing promotional strategies that they utilize to keep people coming back time and time again to the aquarium.  After eating lunch and visiting some of the unique gift shops in Gatlinburg, the students headed back to Pigeon Forge to Wonder Works.  The students participated in a game of laser tag and then took a tour of the Wonder Works Museum where they got to see many scientific phenomenas in action such as space discovery, imagination lab, and various physical challenges.   One of the last stops on the DECA trip was a visit to the Tanger Outlet Mall where students shopped at various retail outlets before getting back on the school bus and heading back to Somerset.
