SHS DECA Competes in International Career and Development Conference

Seventeen DECA students from Somerset High School (SHS) and three chaperones started their journey to the annual DECA International Career and Development Conference (ICDC) in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday, April 23rd.   Upon arriving Saturday afternoon in Nashville, the students spent the afternoon shopping and learning their way around the Music City. On Saturday evening the students attended the DECA opening session in the Bridgestone Arena where over 18,000 DECA members, advisors, and chaperones were in attendance.  The students who attended the conference had qualified to attend the ICDC Conference by placing in the top three in their marketing event at the DECA State Conference in March.

On Sunday, April 24th, SHS DECA students registered their DECA projects and took marketing tests as part of their competition.  Upon completion of that part of their competition, the students then toured the Parthenon on the campus of Vanderbilt University and then explored downtown Nashville.  On Monday, April 25th the DECA students spent the day presenting their DECA projects and role plays to the judges. That evening the students got to enjoy the Opry Mills Mall.

On Tuesday, April 26th the students attended three awards sessions in addition to touring a country music landmark, The Grand Ole Opry.

The students arrived back home on Wednesday, April 27th with a wealth of new experiences and knowledge of marketing.
