SHS Alumni Association- The SHS Alumni Association offers a one- time $500 award. Criteria is based on academic achievement and extra-curricular involvement. Completed applications must be returned to the SHS Counseling Office by the end of the school day on Thursday, April 28.  

 

SHS Alumni (Women of 69) Scholarship- The SHS Alumni (Women of 69) will offer two one-time awards of $250 each. The qualifications are: US citizen or permanent resident, demonstrated academic potential for successful completion of higher learning, completed application form, completed counselor referral, min 3.0 GPA, 95% attendance rate, demonstrate/explain need for scholarship/ financial assistance, and plans to attend an in-state college/ institution of higher learning. Completed applications must be returned to the SHS Counseling Office by the end of the school day on Thursday, April 28.

 

John Y. Stein Scholarship: Students must write an essay ½- 1 page in length on the topic “If you were given a $100,000 donation for SHS, what would you do with it?” The essay should be returned to the SHS Counseling Office by the end of the school day on Friday, April 29. The amount will be approximately $300.

 

 The D.A.V.E. (Digital Audio Video Editing) Award is presented annually. The $100 cash prize is to reward exceptional audio and video editing. Students must submit a sample of their work to David Head by the end of the school day on Monday, April 25.

 

 Milton C. Beattie Memorial Prize for Engineering- Somerset High School Class of 1953: Awarded to a senior at SHS who plans to major in engineering (preference given to civil engineering) who has demonstrated exemplary character and has been involved in SHS extra-curricular activities. This is a $100 award.

Students must submit the following documentation:

Math & Science GPA- provide transcript

2 recommendations- one from a faculty member and the other from faculty, staff or community

Preference on extra-curricular involvement in music and/or sports

Preference for first generation college student

Evaluation of a two paragraph essay on “Why I am interested in pursuing a career in engineering”

Completed materials must be returned to SHS Counseling Office by the end of the school day on Wednesday, April 27.

 

Le Prix Francais- in memory of Mme Patricia Sumner, SHS graduate and former French and Spanish teacher at SHS, retired in 1991: Awarded to the student excelling in most advanced French course offered at SHS who has a passion for the language and culture. Criteria: French GPA and evaluation of two paragraphs written by the student about how the study of French has impacted and enriched their life. This is a $50 award. Required materials must be returned to SHS Counseling Office by the end of the school day on Wednesday, April 27. Student must be present at Honors Night to receive the award.
