Assessment

Assessment is an important part of instructions becuase it allows school leaders, teachers, parents and students know the level at which student education goals are being met.

Current assessment scores and NCLB reports for all Kentucky schools can be found at the Open House area on the Kentucky Department of Education website http://www.education.ky.gov/KDE 

Attendance Specialist

Attendance plays an important role in a student's education. Somerset Independent Schools encourage all students to be in compliance with school board policy and Kentucky State Truancy Laws as defined in KRS 159.150.

Business, Finance and Human Resource Departments

Somerset Independent Business and Finance department provides support regarding funding, budgeting, accounting and reporting of state and federal money.  In addition, the business and finance department provides support to district employee benefit programs including retirement, health, life, dental, vision and payroll.

Somerset Independent Schools serve students with special needs according to the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) 2004 and 707 KAR 1:002- 707 KAR 1:380. Students' individual plans are developed by the Admissions and Release Committees at each individual school.

Nutrition Services

The Somerset Independent Schools serve over 1000 lunches daily. The staff of each cafeteria strive to serve hot and well-balanced meals that meet the nutritional guidelines set forth by the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.

Breakfast is served until 8:00 a.m. at each school.   Please start your day with a healthy breakfast!

Due to delivery outages on numerous menu items, daily offerings might change.

Little Caesars Pizza will be served every Tuesday at Meece Middle and served each Thursday at SHS.  

 

Professional Development

Professional development (PD) is defined in 704 KAR 3:035 Section (2) as "those experiences which systematically over a sustained period of time, enable educators to acquire and apply knowledge, understanding, skills, and abilities to achieve personal, professional, and organizational goals and to facilitate the learning of students."

Technology

Somerset Independent has a strong tradition of excellence.  We have committed ourselves to providing leadership, direction and a safe multifaceted learning environment.  Technology plays an integral part in striving to attain this goal. To better compete in the global market, we encourage our students to use technology tools to communicate, collaborate and create.

Transportation

The transportation department for Somerset Independent Schools provides all transportation for the district by transporting more than 1100 students daily.  In addition, the well maintained fleet of 13 buses and 17 drivers (including subs) provides transportation for all sporting events and extra curricular activities.
