MMS Snowball Dance MMS Snowball Dance

Meece Middle School held their annual Snowball Dance on Friday, February 15, 2019.  During the dance the students voted for the Baron & Baroness in 5th grade, Duke & Duchess in 6th grade, Prince and Princess in 7th grade and the King and Queen in 8th grade.  Here are the winners:

 

5th Grade - Baron was Tyler Edwards / Baroness was Sophie Barnes 
6th Grade - Duke was Tyson Brashears / Duchess was Shelby Roberts
7th Grade - Prince was Carl Barber / Princess was Kaylie Sears 
8th Grade - King was Marcus Mills / Queen was Reina Wesley 

The Stone Age Scholastic Book Fair

.The Scholastic Book Fair will be at Meece Middle School Library February 25h-March 1st. We will be open from 8:00- 3:00 daily. 5th grade day will be Monday, 6th grade on Tuesday, 7th grade on Wednesday, and 8th grade on Thursday. On Friday, we will be open from 8:00- 12:00 for all grades to make their final purchases.


Our Family Literacy Night is scheduled for Monday, February 25th. Extended shopping hours will be from 4:00- 6:00. Students can earn bonus points/ homework passes by checking in with their Language Arts teacher and reading for at least 20 minutes. Students can also take an AR test if needed and work toward meeting their AR goal. There will be prizes and refreshments. We have invited the dogs from our local Love on a Leash program to be here along with the Book Mobile.

 

Dress-up Days
Monday-
Celebrate our Stone Age Book Fair by Wearing Gray and Jeans.      
Tuesday-
Dr. Seuss’ Birthday and Read across America are celebrated Saturday, March 2nd. Dress like a book character today. 
Wednesday-
Dress like a Flintstones Character or wear a Flintstones T-shirts today.
Thursday- Gray sweat pants, hoodies, and t-shirts would be a great idea for Comfortable Thursday.   
School Spirit Friday- Wear Purple & Gold- Go Jumpers!
* All costumes and outfits must follow the dress code.

January 2019 Character Salute Winner - Optimism January Character Salute Winners

Meece Middle School believes in developing well-rounded students and instilling the character traits that produces success in life.   The character word for January was optimism which means to be assured, certain, positive, happy in manner and always looking on the bright side and reaching for your goals. 

Career Day @ MMS Career Professionals @ MMS

Meece Middle School held Career Day on February 8, 2019.  Various career professionals from our community volunteered their time to come and “be the teacher” for the day.  Students were able to take part in investigations, karate lessons, entrepreneurship, finance, law and multiple other careers.

Meece Middle School Holds Annual GeoBee MMS Classroom Winners of GeoBee

Meece Middle School held their annual school-wide GeoBee competition on Friday, February 1, 2019 with the winner having the opportunity to qualify for state competition in March.  The National Geographic GeoBee is an annual competition designed to inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world.

Principal's Message

Welcome to Meece Middle School!

 

            Meece Middle School is the only middle school in the Somerset Independent School District.  We adhere to the mission of the Somerset Independent schools to create, implement, and maintain an environment which encourages all students to reach their fullest potential in school and in life.

 

            Meece Middle School is home to 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. We offer all basic core academic classes as well as accelerated math, science in all grades plus accelerated English in the 8th grade.  Our student elective classes include business and marketing, band, music, art, practical living, computer technology, Spanish, physical exercise and many more sub domains of career developing content.  The staff at Meece Middle School is dedicated to providing a rigorous curriculum in a student-centered, caring environment that enables all students to become productive citizens prepared to lead and serve in our community.  

 

            Meece Middle School holds true to the strong traditions and pride of the Somerset Independent School District.  With our strong focus on academics, we also provide the student body with various extracurricular activities including interscholastic athletics for all grades:  archery, dance, football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, track, cross country, cheerleading, golf and trap and skeet team.  Students may choose to participate in STLP, drama, academic teams, student council, technology teams, Y-Club, FCA, John Sherman Cooper Leadership program, STAR Student Program, the 21 Century Afterschool Program and over 20 additional career development clubs intentionally designed to target the specific needs and wants to our student body.
