Students, if you have lost any personal belongings this school year please check the back of the office…. All items will be donated to the Youth Service Center during spring break.

 

Attention Project Purple Members:  This will be your last chance to earn volunteer hours to attend the field trip.  You need a total of 6 hours.  Sign up today outside the Youth Service Center to volunteer at UNITE TO READ on March 26th from 4:30 to 7:30.  If you have any questions, see Mrs. Johnson or Mrs. Baker.

 

Tickets for Disney's Newsies the Musical are on sale in the guidance office! Purchase yours now to get the best seats possible! Performances are April 12, 13, and 14 and admission is $12 for adults and $8 for students. Don't forget that SHS staff and faculty receive a free ticket! Be sure to reserve your seat with Mrs. Pierce in the guidance office soon!

The ACT Scholarship Giveaway is for sophomores and juniors that register for an April, June or July 2019 US National Test date and opt-in to the giveaway during registration. It’s that easy! Eligible students may also enter by mail.  Go to act.org/ACTScholarshipGiveaway to learn more. There will be 3 winners of $5,000 and 1 grand prize winner of $40,000 (payable over 4 years).

Kentucky students who will have completed grades 9-12 (as of summer 2019) are eligible to apply for the Young Leaders Academy: Revisiting American Constitutionalism, a summer residential leadership conference at the University of Louisville. The McConnell Center offers this annual program to outstanding high school students to help hone their leadership skills and further their understanding of American history. Discover your new passions at Sullivan’s Summer Camps! Camp’s include: Culinary Camp, Advanced Culinary Camp, Baking & Pastry Arts Camp, Advanced Baking & Pastry Arts Camp, Cybersecurity Camp, Graphic Design Camp, Interior Design Camp, Med Camp, VEX Robotics Camp and Web Development Camp. The Perry Outreach Program is a free, one-day, hands-on experience for high school females, grades 10 and up, who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine and engineering. The program will be held on Saturday, May 18 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Additional information can be found at www.perryinitiative.org. An application link is available on the guidance office website. The application deadline is April 18, 2019.

 

Cumberland Family Medical is very excited to sponsor a $1,000 scholarship for our school again this year! This community scholarship is open to a graduating senior planning to attend a post-secondary school and major in a health-related field of study. Applications can be picked up in the SHS Counseling Office. Completed applications must be returned to the SHS Counseling Office by the end of the school day on April 12, 2019. The recipient will be announced at Honor’s Night.  The scholarship is sponsored by Women’s Care of Lake Cumberland on behalf of Cumberland Family Medical Center, Inc.

 

  The Center for Rural Development is currently accepting applications for the 2019 Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute (ELI) for current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.  ELI is an intensive, weeklong program focused on developing creativity, teamwork, business and leadership skills. ELI is developed, coordinated and supervised by The Center. All lodging, meals and program expenses are offered at no cost to the student. Participants will be divided into teams. The weeklong institute includes classroom instruction, guest speakers, competitions and tours of local businesses. The program will be held July 22-26 at The Center. Applications are available online at www.centeryouthprograms.com. The application deadline is 8:00am on April 2, 2019.   

 

The KEDC Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to college (2 or 4 year), technical or vocational bound students graduating from a high school in a KEDC member district. To be eligible, students must: Maintain a 3.0 GPA, meet CPE ACT benchmarks, complete essay and demonstrate financial need. Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis and is not renewable. The scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $2,500 to be divided into two equal installments (one per semester). Applications along with a scoring rubric can be picked up in the SHS Counseling Office. The application deadline is April 1, 2019.

 

The Kentucky Farm Bureau Education Foundation will award 95 county and state college scholarships to high school seniors for the current school year. Scholarships may be applied to tuition, housing, books and other educational expenses. Payments will be made directly to the college or university of choice. To be eligible, students must: have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA OR a minimum 23 ACT score and be the child of a Kentucky Farm Bureau member and remain such while the scholarship is in force.  All available scholarships are listed on the application. Applications can be picked up in the SHS Counseling Office or downloaded at kyfb.com/scholarships.

 

The University of Kentucky PEPP Scholars is an academic enrichment program for high school graduates who are interested in becoming physicians and dentists to serve the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Program dates are June 16-28, 2019. Apply online at https://meded.med.uky.edu/pepp-scholars.
