SCHOLARSHIPS (details and applications in guidance office)
The John Y. Stein scholarship offers approximately $300 to a graduating senior. To apply, students write an essay one half to one page in length on the topic, “If you were given a $100,000 donation for SHS, what would you do with it?” The essay should be returned to the SHS Counseling Office by the end of the school day on Friday, April 26.
The Robert J. Schena Engineering Scholarship is designed to help SHS graduates interested in majoring in engineering and/or engineering technology. Amounts vary based on need. The funds will be go directly to the students account at the college/university. Applications are in the SHS Counseling Office and completed applications are due by the end of the school day on Friday, April 26.
The Kiwanis Club of Somerset Foundation is offering a $1,000 academic scholarship to a qualifying senior. This scholarship is for financial assistance. The scholarship will be payable directly to the college/university selected at $500 each semester for the individual’s first two semesters of study. Applications can be picked up in the SHS Counseling Office or found on our website. Completed applications must be submitted via email to email@example.com by Friday, May 3.

The Perry Outreach Program is on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. The Perry Outreach Program is a free, one-day, hands-on experience for high school women who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine and engineering. Students will hear from women leaders in these fields and try it for themselves by performing mock orthopaedic surgeries and biomechanics experiments. Link to application is on guidance website. Deadline to apply is April 18, 2019.
High school juniors are invited to have fun and hone your skills this summer on campus at Ky Wesleyan College. Students will learn alongside students from across the country in leadership and medical/science-related fields. Choices: Leadership Development or STEM. Learn more at www.kwc.edu/kwsa.
David Rogers will be taking cap & gown pictures this Friday, April 26 in the Hall of Fame starting at 10:00am for interested seniors. Sign up in the SHS Counseling Office by Thursday, April 25 to be on the list to be called and to pick up an order envelope. In addition, Mr. Rogers will take a group picture of all graduates in their caps & gowns as well as an individual picture of students receiving their diploma at graduation. Order forms are in the SHS Counseling Office.
Senior Honors Night will be May 7, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.
The ACT Scholarship Giveaway is for sophomores and juniors that register for an April, June or July 2019 US National Test date and opt-in to the giveaway during registration. It’s that easy! Eligible students may also enter by mail. Go to act.org/ACTScholarshipGiveaway to learn more. There will be 3 winners of $5,000 and 1 grand prize winner of $40,000 (payable over 4 years).
